The Great British Disease - Greed!

I make no apologies if this article infringes any "political correctness" as I feel strongly about the subject!  I've kept it brief and invite comments from anyone.  You can contact us in the usual manner - press Contact Us above or to the left.

What is it with the Brits of today?  And more specifically, Dentists and University Lecturers in particular at the moment.

If Dentists were interested in looking after our Oral Hygene then why are they so obsessed with money rather than the job?  the same goes for University Lecturers, if they felt for their students then they wouldn't hold their graduation to ransom either.  This typifies the greed currently rife throughout our society!  It's time we concentrated on HAPPINESS and not just MONEY!!

In general they are money mad and selfish.  You can see it all around you and I blame the start of this trend squarely on the shoulders of Maggie Thatcher.

With all the publicity on today's yob culture and the way modern kids are being brought up where no time is given to them but they can have all the money their parents can lavish on them, is it any wonder they turn out like they do?  My attitude is, by today's standards, old fashioned, but I believe that if you want children then show it and be there for them, not putting them in someone else's hands while you rush out to make money!  It's true, it is "the root of all evil"!

I know marriage's break up and the lone parent is then "invited" back to work, but whilst this happens a fair proportion of the children then seem to stray from the straight and narrow.  Why do marriages break up?  It appears it's because a fair proportion of people nowadays EXPECT everything all at once and don't want to have to wait to build their home around them.  They require all the worldly goods around them all at once, and then they have to have "labels" in clothes etc., and have to be seen to be doing well.  If you bring your children up to respect others and things around them then you have achieved something real in your life.

I also believe that the yobbish society we have now is due to the so called "do gooders" who over the years have got all forms of correction virtually banned and I'm sure you and your children, adults in life now, would freely admit that the odd smack never did them any harm.  Bring back corporal punishment like the ruler and slipper at school and take away some of these newer rules and regulations that prevent authority in places like schools.

Whilst on the subject of schools, it's about time common sense prevailed rather than a school curriculum which does nothing to solve today's problems, and they introduced a course or two on responsiblities of students to both their envioronment and people around them.  Teach them how to be good citizens; teach them the basics of discipline; teach them the differences between right and wrong; bring back subjects like cooking,... let's get back to basics!

I know that people say many things begin at home but it's obvious that they aren't so let's start at school and hope it filters back down into their home life if parents can't do the job!  Looking at hearing some parents, maybe they should be compelled to do a parenting class especially where their children are the cause of problems.

Anyway, returning to the title subject.  At least the rest of Europe appears to have the right idea when it comes to work.  They adopt the attitude that we should "work to live" rather than the great British disease of "live to work!".  I for one believe it will be a dark day if Tony Blair changes their attitude to fall in line with the UK and Big Business in general.  Surely i nthe 21st century we should be putting people first and foremost and not after fat profits and fat cats!!!

It's now being said that people are not living as long as their parents ever did although to date the trend has been that each generation has exceeded their parents for life expectancy.  In those days they did more physical work, ate less junk food, and looking back, although they had less money, they were on the whole a happier bunch of people.

Maybe it's time to take a step back and re-evaluate your life, before it's too late!

If you have young children, then think about them, and make time available for them now.  Time flies past so quickly and you'll only get one chance!

Another thing to consider.

Why should annual pay rises ALWAYS be in percentage terms?  After all why does it cost say someone earning £30k that much more to live than say a lowly paid shop worker on £10k?  Surely the costs would be similar as after all they both need similar things to live?  Again, a sign of greed on the part of the have gots and the have nots suffer.  Yet again the great divide gets wider and in years to come resentment will overflow, you mark my words.

The time is well overdue for justice to be seen to be done and not to continaully turn a blind eye to the ongoing injustices of life.

Too many people have too much money at too soon a time and don't have the faintest idea of how to manage it!  I've never been, and no doubt never will, be in such a position, but at my time of life, I guess I'd be more prepared and have a better understanding of what to do with any new found wealth!
