Apologies

Apologies for the lack of updates this season on the website

This is due in the main part to a lack of information from the captains and other commitments by myself

We will endeavour to remedy the situation at some time soon.

Bowls Season Begins Saturday 12th April 2008

The new season begins very shortly and we hope to see as many members there as possible on what will turn out to be a nice pleasant weekend, mark my words!

We hope for a good playing season so that we can maximise our use of the green and other facilities throughout the period.

During the "closed" season we have maintained a Social Club, meeting on a Thursday afternoon, and this has proved to be a great success, with a regular number of people attending each week, with up to 24 people turning up.

We have had a dominoes competition during the Social Afternoons, and very shortly this will reach conclusion and we hope to present a trophy to the winner, and we'll publish the result on the web site!

Crown Green Bowling Open Days

Open Days this year are on Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th April.

If you have fancied playing Bowls but not tried it before, or would like to join a Bowls Club, then why not come along to the club on these days, between 2:15pm and 5pm and try your hand. You're under no obligation to join, so why not "Try before you Buy!"

Come try the game and make some new friends in the process.

We look forward to making your acquaintance during this weekend.

Presentation Lunch, Wednesday 14th November 2007

All I have to report at this time is that it went down well, due in part to the planning and efforts of Pat Perry and Kath Brown.

Social Afternoon - Starts 2pm Thursday 25th October - and is Weekly!

The day seemed to go down well, and it got a general thumbs up from all present.  The members liked the 2pm start idea so that they could get home before it gets too dark now that the autumn and winter sets in.

The Beetle Drive went down particularly well and we thank Pauline Jenkins for her organisation and for providing the prizes on this first day.  As it was so popular, we hope to have another one in 4/6 weeks time.

Next week we've decided to bring a selection of board and card games, lay them out and then people can join in where they want to.

In the near future we hope to resurrect the game of darts .... we just need to plan how we're going to integrate that into the other activities without causing harm to other people around!

Following up on some of the comments, it might be a good idea nearer to Christmas for people to bring in some seasonal "food" and have a little party.

As we progress, it is hoped to introduce other activities, like a craft afternoon for example, and in the new year, when the weather improves, hopefully a trip out to the likes of the Black Country Museum.  In the not too distant future, I hope to resurrect the Brewery Trip that I had to postpone - my apologies for that one!

With the members' help and participation it looks like being an entertaining afternoon.

A New Contender for the 'Captain Marigold' Title!

Nobby has decided he wants the title of "Captain Marigold, and hence can be seen in the kitchen on a number of occasions recently.  Or maybe he's trying to get round the ladies of the club!

Nobby's not been able to play much this season but he turns up regularly to support the team when they play matches and to watch on a daily basis.  It's rumoured he only comes for a cup of tea but we all know it's to chat to his many friends at tea time!

Hargrave Goblet

It was decided to run a buffet lunch for this Cup rather than individuals taking their own packed lunch, just as when we play other clubs.  Members brought a wide array of food for the event and it proved to be a great success and will be considered for future events.

Social Section

As members visiting the club may have noticed there's a sheet on the noticeboard referring to a social event that is being planned, this visit to a micro brewery!  It is hoped that this is the start of something new, but this will depend on the members and their support, and with all this wet weather, maybe we can try indoor "sports" like tiddlywinks or something similar!!  Maybe we need a Cup for a Tiddlywinks Competition!!

Update to Captains' report on the Season so far.

For an update to the season so far, including a report as to how the Strawberry Fayre went, along with the competitions, then read the Captain's Report

The Toseland Cup

Nobby with trophySunday 1st July saw The Toseland Cup competed for and the results are on the 'matches' page, with the victor on the day being the relative newcomer, David Hinds, who joined the club following Open Day earlier this year.

The cup is being held here by one of our oldest, and staunchest supporters, Nobby.  Just click on the photo to view Nobby holding the cup!

The Bowling Season

The bowling season usually starts in mid April and runs until mid October depending on weather and green condition, and the exact start and finish dates will be sent to each member, and posted on the club notice board and web pages.

The green is available to members throughout each day during daylight hours, with informal bowling between members from 2.15pm for a 2.30pm start on most days, except when matches are being played, and three evenings a week from about end of May starting at 6.30pm, weather permitting.

During these informal sessions the name of each attending member is drawn out of the bag to form teams and this helps to get members to mix and get to know each other.

We have friendly matches throughout the season with various other teams across the local area including other Tamworth clubs, Little Aston, Lichfield, Hammerwich, etc.

Open Day on Saturday 21st April - all welcome to try the game!

Saturday 21st April was Open Day at the Club, where all were welcome to come and try out the game and talk to current members and generally get a feel for the atmosphere of the Club!  See the "Where R We" page on how to Find Us - link to the left!  The Number 2 Bus from Tamworth Town goes past the door!!

There is a Car Park for members use, and when full, whilst there is adequate road parking, please do NOT obstruct resident's driveways.  Please Park considerately!

Newcomers are always welcome and are able to use club woods if they have no bowls of their own.  A visitor's fee of £3 per session, up to a maximum of 6 sessions per season, is payable, and after that if you wish to continue playing we would ask you to join the club.

All we ask is that if you want a game, then you turn up by 2:15pm on the day so that you can be added to the draw to play off at 2.30pm.

If you just want to view and chat then feel free to turn up any time from 2:15pm to 4:45pm, or call one of the officials - see the Contacts list, or take advantage of the break for tea at 3:30pm, when you can chat with members at your will.

And please don't think this is an "old person's game", as it's open to ALL AGES!  You only have to see the matches on the TV and you'll see the professionals are well below the Pensioner threshold!

Club Cup Competitions

A number of Club Cups are played for each season, the details of these will be posted on the notice board at the beginning of the season and members who wish to compete for these should put their names on the appropriate list when requested.  There is a small entry charge for each competition.

Inter Club Matches

A number of inter club matches are played throughout the season and a full list of these will be posted with dates at the beginning of the season.  These are an important social aspect of the club bowling season, and your support at these events is essential.

All members are welcome to play in these matches and those wishing to take part should put their names on the appropriate list when it is posted on the notice board.  Please do this as early as possible to assist the Captains.

Buffet Teas

A number of the home match days include a buffet tea, for which participating members are asked to assist in providing items for the buffet and your help with this is appreciated. Details of what you are willing to provide should be put on the list which will be posted on the notice board.

Away Matches

Travel to away matches is normally arranged between groups of participating members and an informal agreement exists that any member providing the transport should be compensated at the rate of £1 per passenger towards fuel costs.

Visitor Fees

Visitors wishing to play on the club green are welcome but please ensure that they sign the visitor's book (available in the club house), and that the playing fee of £3.00 per day is collected and passed to our membership secretary, ensuring that the maximum of 6 visits per year per person is not exceeded.

Visitors playing during the normal club afternoon and evening sessions will be expected to play in the team they are picked for at that time.

Any member and visitor wishing to play outside of the normal club sessions may do so, but will require a key to gain access to the clubhouse facilities.

Winter Club Activities

When the Bowling Season ends a number of other activities commence in the club house and all members are invited to attend these.  The start date of each will be posted on the notice board towards the end of the season.

Table Tennis

Members meet on a Wednesday morning all through the year and on Tuesday and Friday afternoon during the winter.  This activity offers a social get together along with a little competitive gentle exercise, with a break for afternoon tea and biscuits!
