An Introduction to using PCs with Windows 98

This booklet introduces the user to the PC and shows them basically how to use it. Very useful for novices and new users.

This document requires a pdf reader in order to read it,such as Acrobat or FoxIT.

If you require a pdf file reader, then a very good, small and fast reader can be found at Foxit Software.  I use this and prefer it as it is much smaller and quicker to open than Adobe Acrobat, which at >27Mb is far too big if you include the Yahoo Toolbar and Photoshop Album Starter Edition!

Try the Foxit pdf reader, it's good!

Tips on Using Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer Tips can be opened here by left clicking your mouse or downloading by right clicking your mouse, on this « link ». (These notes were compiled by Alan J Weston and are written around IE5.x but the contents also relate to IE6.x too.)

Due to the size of the upgrade from 5x to 6x I would suggest you pick up a free ISP disk and run the install/upgrade from that. Do NOT however run the CD automatically and allow it to auto install as it may decide to change all your connections to their settings! You have been warned!

Fitting a second Hard Disk Drive

This article deals with the fitting a second Hard Disk Drive to extend your storage space and create a backup image of your main drive, C: for safety!

I advocate the fitting of a second drive in order to make an image of the C drive as a back up in the event of either a hard disk failure or a corruption of the Windows image on the C drive for whatever reasons. It then makes restoration of your suystem that much easier! For this you'll need some additional software like Symantec Ghost or Powerquest's Drive Image or something similar. There may even be some freeware to do this available nowadays, so I guess a search via something like Google Search may find something.
